Lips tend to go through 3 stages post-procedure. Initially they will likely be very red and swollen, within a few days to a week you may notice a loss of color almost entirely- this is normal. By 1-2 weeks the color should bloom once more to be your final desired result. Be mindful that oral prosthetic dentures, braces, or tongue piercings may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections from mouth to lips. Post procedure, avoid exposure to sunshine, tanning beds, pools, hot tubs, and direct shower pressure for at least 2 weeks. Keep lips moist with only the ointment. Drinking from a straw and avoiding toothpaste and lipstick/chapstick/lotion on lips will accommodate tenderness and help with the healing process.
Your permanent make-up has been applied with sterile, single use needles with the finest colours available. The quality of your procedure is dependent on you giving the proper care during the healing process from this point on. A few days of simple care will make a noticeable and permanent difference!
(Day of Procedure)
For the next few hours and before bed, gently wash with water using a slightly damp cotton ball. This will prevent a thick scab from forming. Blot dry and apply an extremely thin coat of the ointment that is provided. Remove any excess ointment on surrounding skin. Always Keep the lips moist.
DAY 1:
In the morning, wash with water again using the damp cotton ball. Blot dry and apply a thin coat of ointment (less is more!). Rinse and apply the ointment at least (3) times throughout the day. Do not use any type of make-up or foundation close to the area.
DAY 2 - Until Healed:
DO NOT ALLOW YOUR PROCEDURE TO DRY OUT. Replace your ointment with the Chap Stick provided. Avoid lotions with AHA’s, glycolic or salicylic acids. Reapply the Chap Stick several times per day while healing, to prevent scabbing and itching. DO NOT pick at your tattoo at all, as you will remove it!
4 Weeks Following Procedure and touch-up (if needed):
Absolutely avoid sun, tanning beds and wind. No swimming in salt or chlorinated water during the healing process. If you must go into the pool briefly, put a good coating of ointment which will help repel the water.
For years to come help maintain lasting colour:
The way you keep your colour fresh and new is to keep it out of the sun! Always use an SPF on the area as sun is the number one reason for premature fading. Never use exfoliants or products meant to remove dead skin cells on the area. Using these on the tattooed area will result in premature fading. If you use these on your face, before application coat Lips with a thin coat of Chap Stick. Some redness around the tattoo is normal. Inflammation is part of the natural healing process.
REMEMBER!
Your Lip Tattoo may look up to 50% darker for at least the first few days and up to a week. This is part of tattoo healing. They may look harsh and drawn on. As soon as the top layer heals and flakes off, you will have the soft colour and natural look that you desire. If you have a history of cold sores, Acyclovir should be taken prior and during healing.
Do not wear contact lenses to the appointment and avoid wearing them for at least 24 hours after. Please come to your appointment without eye makeup on. Post procedure, lids may feel swollen and heavy. Sleeping in an elevated position for the first night or two may help with swelling. Cold packs protected by a cloth or paper towel will help with swelling post-treatment but be mindful not to use them too much to avoid freezing the area. Skin may begin to peel or flake within 2-5 days, however DO NOT pick, itch, or scratch in order to avoid peeling off pigment.

What to expect after the procedure
❖ Mild swelling, itching, light scabbing and bruising, this is a good sign as it means the skin in healing.
❖ The area will appear darker and bolder at first; this is because the pigment takes around 7 days to enter the deeper layers of the skin. After 7-10 days, exfoliation takes place. The top layer of the skin peels off, leaving a softer, lighter color below.
❖ You may experience color change or color loss as the procedure area heals. This will be addressed
during the touch-up, which is why the touch-up is necessary. The procedure area needs to be completely healed before the touch-up, which usually takes around 4 weeks.
❖ An annual touch-up will be needed after the first touch-up procedure depending on your skin, medications, and sun exposure. We recommend the first touch up 4-6 weeks after the first session; which is included in the price, then every year to keep them looking fresh and beautiful.
After-Care
Careful after-care is very important for producing a beautiful and lasting result.
❖ Wash every day for 10 days with the cleanser provided, pat dry and put the cream on
❖ On the first day of your procedure, every hour gently wipe the area with a cotton pad dipped in distilled water. Next apply a very thin layer of cream to the area. From days 2-10 dab a very thin layer of cream 4-5 times daily
❖ Do not scrub, pick, or rub at the epithelial crust that forms. Allow it to flake off naturally;
If it is removed before it is ready, the pigment underneath can be pulled out.
❖ Do not use any make-up on the area for at least 14 days.
❖ Do not expose area to the sun or tanning beds for 14 days.
❖ Do not use Retin-A or Glycolic Acids in the area during or after healing.
❖ Avoid swimming pools for 14 days.
❖ It is recommended that you apply Vaseline to treated areas prior to swimming even after healed to
prevent the chlorine water and salt from penetrating the area.
❖ Only touch the treated areas with clean hands during the healing process.
❖ Try not to sleep on your face for the first 10 days.
❖ After the area is completely healed, you may go back to your regular cleansing and make-up routine.
❖ Avoid rubbing the area and be sure to apply sunscreen to prevent fading. We want you to be thrilled with the results for the months ahead, so please follow the instructions!
